Eastern gate, market, design and hanok
From the first station to the final station; travel to and from your hotel is excluded.
Eat at Gwangjang, see the eastern gate and DDP, then take the longer walk to Namsangol; allow rests and wear comfortable shoes.
This route connects Gwangjang Market, Heunginjimun Gate, Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Namsangol Hanok Village.
Gwangjang Market
Browse textiles, clothing and food stalls; queuing and eating count toward meals.
Station code: L1S0154
Walk the aisles to see textiles, clothing and food stalls before choosing where to eat. Mung-bean pancakes and gimbap are options rather than a checklist requiring several queues. Choose according to appetite and waiting time, leaving room to observe everyday market activity.
The food area and other shops have different schedules; one open stall does not mean the whole market is operating. Review prices and portions before ordering and ask before photographing vendors or customers. Queuing and eating are already counted as meals, while the stop allowance covers browsing.
Suggested visit allowance: 40–55 minutes
Official visitor and transport information — Gwangjang Market
Heunginjimun Gate
View the eastern city gate from public paths; a city-wall hike is excluded.
Station code: L1S0155
From public pavements, study the relationship between the gate and its curved outer defensive wall, then compare it with the surrounding roads. Heunginjimun is the gate commonly called Dongdaemun; it is distinct from Sungnyemun, the southern gate in another neighbourhood.
Remain on pedestrian paths around the busy roads and use marked crossings for new viewpoints. This stop excludes an uphill city-wall hike and Naksan Park. Those need additional walking and return time. Continue at street level toward DDP after the exterior visit.
Suggested visit allowance: 25–35 minutes
Official visitor and transport information — Heunginjimun Gate
Dongdaemun Design Plaza
Explore the curved architecture and public plazas; ticketed exhibitions require extra time.
Station code: L2S0205
Follow the public paths to see how the curves and metal surfaces change as you move, then explore accessible plazas. Paired with Heunginjimun, the stop offers a comparison of very different urban scales. Keep major passages clear while taking photographs.
Exhibitions, shops and event spaces have individual hours and ticket requirements. This allowance covers architecture and public areas; night projections depend on the event calendar. If continuing to Namsangol, take a break first because the next city walk is substantially longer.
Suggested visit allowance: 65–90 minutes
Official visitor and transport information — Dongdaemun Design Plaza
Namsangol Hanok Village
Explore traditional houses, courtyards and gardens; workshops and performances are excluded.
Station code: L3S0321
Study the rooflines, wooden structures and proportions of the courtyards, comparing the layouts of the houses. This makes an interesting counterpart to Myeongdong or DDP. Choose a few details to examine slowly rather than trying to photograph every building.
The traditional-house area and wider grounds may follow different access schedules, so check official visitor information. Workshops, performances and special events are excluded and need extra time. Approach from Chungmuro; this route does not climb Namsan or visit Seoul Tower.
Suggested visit allowance: 60–80 minutes
