Palace, market and hanok across central Seoul
From the first station to the final station; travel to and from your hotel is excluded.
After Deoksugung, see Sungnyemun and Namdaemun Market, then cross Myeongdong to Namsangol; expect substantial walking.
This route connects Deoksugung Palace, Sungnyemun Gate, Namdaemun Market, Myeongdong shopping streets, Namsangol Hanok Village.
Deoksugung Palace
Compare Korean palace buildings and Western-style exteriors; separately booked exhibitions are excluded.
Station code: L1S0151
Compare the Korean halls with the Western-style stone buildings, then look at how the courtyards sit against the modern skyline. Focusing on two or three groups of buildings gives the visit a clear theme without adding every indoor exhibition to the palace walk.
Palace entry and special exhibitions can have separate tickets or reservation systems. The allowance focuses on grounds and exteriors and does not guarantee a guard ceremony. On a closure day, the stone-wall street is an alternative walk, not a replacement for an actual palace visit.
Suggested visit allowance: 65–90 minutes
Official visitor and transport information — Deoksugung Palace
Sungnyemun Gate
View the southern city gate from public space; check courtyard access separately.
Station code: L4S0425
Pause to examine how the stone base meets the timber roof, then compare the gate with the roads around it. After the market, the more open view is a chance to slow down rather than another landmark to tick off quickly.
This itinerary plans an exterior view from public space, without guaranteeing access to the courtyard or other areas. Follow barriers and check official arrangements if you want to enter. Use formal pedestrian routes toward Hoehyeon or Myeongdong and allow for traffic lights.
Suggested visit allowance: 20–30 minutes
Official visitor and transport information — Sungnyemun Gate
Namdaemun Market
Explore clothing, everyday goods and food alleys; individual shop hours vary.
Station code: L4S0425
Enter from the Hoehyeon side and use a main lane to establish your bearings before focusing on clothing, household goods or food alleys. Deliveries and ordinary shopping are part of this working market, so leave room for people carrying goods when you stop.
Wholesale shops, retail areas and restaurants keep different schedules. Check the type of shopping you want and keep meals separate from browsing time. Trim side lanes if purchases take longer. Nearby Sungnyemun requires street crossings; it is not a gateway inside the market.
Suggested visit allowance: 40–55 minutes
Official visitor and transport information — Namdaemun Market
Myeongdong shopping streets
Browse selected shopping lanes and adjust purchases and meals to your interests.
Station code: L4S0424
Choose one main shopping street, then use side lanes for clothing or everyday goods that interest you. The density and movement of Myeongdong are part of the experience; you do not need to enter every cosmetics shop to enjoy the district.
Shops and street stalls operate at different times, so a night photograph does not promise the same atmosphere during the day. Eating, queues and breaks belong in the meal allowance. When continuing toward Namsangol, follow the Chungmuro direction; the cable car and tower are separate outings.
Suggested visit allowance: 40–45 minutes
Official visitor and transport information — Myeongdong shopping streets
Namsangol Hanok Village
Explore traditional houses, courtyards and gardens; workshops and performances are excluded.
Station code: L3S0321
Study the rooflines, wooden structures and proportions of the courtyards, comparing the layouts of the houses. This makes an interesting counterpart to Myeongdong or DDP. Choose a few details to examine slowly rather than trying to photograph every building.
The traditional-house area and wider grounds may follow different access schedules, so check official visitor information. Workshops, performances and special events are excluded and need extra time. Approach from Chungmuro; this route does not climb Namsan or visit Seoul Tower.
Suggested visit allowance: 45–65 minutes
