Beitou culture and Tamsui river day
From the first station to the final station; travel to and from your hotel is excluded.
Spend the morning with bathhouse history and Thermal Valley, then take the MRT to Tamsui after lunch; no bathing, ferries or Fisherman’s Wharf.
This route connects Beitou Hot Spring Museum, Thermal Valley, Tamsui Old Street and riverside.
Beitou Hot Spring Museum
Explore hot-spring culture in a former bathhouse; bathing is not included.
Station code: R22A
Read Beitou through the former bathhouse: study the bathing spaces and building before turning to the displays about hot-spring life. Connect what you see indoors with the stream-side neighbourhood outside. A few carefully chosen details offer a stronger story than a fast circuit of photographs.
Museum time is not bathing time. A separate bath booking needs its own allowance for changing, washing and resting. Check admission arrangements and closing days before fixing your route; the two-hour version only allows a focused look at selected displays.
Suggested visit allowance: 50–65 minutes

Thermal Valley
View the geothermal landscape from open paths and follow closure and weather notices.
Station code: R22A
The walk uphill from the museum changes gradually from neighbourhood streets to a geothermal landscape. Follow the open viewing path and watch the water and steam from an unobstructed position. Visibility varies with the weather, so there is no single photograph you need to wait for.
This is a viewing stop, not a bathing or foot-soaking opportunity. Respect barriers and closures, and take the sloping walk slowly in wet weather. On the Tamsui itinerary, the return walk downhill to Xinbeitou station is included in the next transport leg’s walking allowance.
Suggested visit allowance: 30–40 minutes

Tamsui Old Street and riverside
Explore the old street and river near the station; ferries and Fisherman’s Wharf are excluded.
Station code: R28
Walk a stretch of riverside near the station before turning into the old street for shops or snacks. Alternate between water views, the hills across the river and the street itself. These changing perspectives make a relaxed afternoon without continually extending the walk farther away.
Fisherman’s Wharf, Fort San Domingo and ferries are excluded, and sunset conditions are not guaranteed. Adding a more distant attraction requires new transport time and a shorter Beitou visit. Eating and queues are budgeted separately, with the return journey beginning at Tamsui station.
Suggested visit allowance: 100–130 minutes
