Wanhua, Ximen and Dadaocheng day

From the first station to the final station; travel to and from your hotel is excluded.

Start with temple and heritage streets, walk to the Red House, then take the MRT to Dihua Street for another layer of the old city.

This route connects Longshan Temple, Bopiliao Historic Block, The Red House and nearby streets, Dihua Street.

Longshan Temple

Explore temple carvings and courtyards while giving worshippers priority.

Station code: BL10

Approach from the forecourt and first notice the roofline, then the stone columns, carved details and courtyards. This is a working place of worship rather than a photographic set. The movement of worshippers gives the visit a different rhythm from the heritage streets nearby.

Follow the posted visitor route and step aside during ceremonies. Avoid photographing people at prayer without permission or crossing queues to reach another detail. A thoughtful look at the main courtyard leaves time to continue to Bopiliao and compare sacred architecture with everyday streets.

Suggested visit allowance: 40–55 minutes

Bopiliao Historic Block

Explore brick-fronted streets and arcades; indoor exhibitions and outdoor areas have different access arrangements.

Station code: BL10

Use the brick walls, continuous arcades and modest scale of the shopfronts as your guide. Pause at a few corners to compare windows and façades instead of photographing every doorway. After Longshan, the contrast between ceremonial decoration and everyday building forms becomes particularly clear.

Check official access before travelling: the outdoor block and indoor exhibitions have different hours, with Monday normally closed. The short itinerary focuses on the streets. If an exhibition catches your interest, shorten the next stop and allow enough time to read rather than rushing through it.

Suggested visit allowance: 45–60 minutes

The Red House and nearby streets

Explore the brick building and neighbouring creative streets; check access before entering.

Station code: BL11

Start with the red-brick building itself, then explore surrounding streets and creative spaces. Compared with Bopiliao or Dihua Street, this stop offers another way to see historic architecture incorporated into contemporary shopping and neighbourhood life.

Indoor shops and events depend on the day’s programme; no particular market or performance is promised. Keep entrances clear when photographing. If continuing to Dihua Street, orient yourself toward Ximen station and keep station access separate from the sightseeing allowance.

Dihua Street

Choose a stretch of heritage street for shophouses, tea shops and dried-goods stores.

Station code: G13

Choose a stretch of Dihua Street and look above the merchandise at upper floors, signs and shopfronts. Tea and dried-goods businesses help explain the street as a working commercial space. If you want to buy tea, allow time to ask questions and make a choice.

Individual shops keep different hours and are not galleries with guaranteed access. Respect staff and customers at work and ask before photographing people. Food queues belong to the meal allowance; if shopping takes longer, shorten later browsing instead of rushing the street walk.
